TWO PUBLIC MEETINGS SCHEDULED TO DISCUSS NOTICE OF PREPARATION OF DRAFT LAX ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT

(Los Angeles. California – April 24, 2008)  Two public scoping meetings are scheduled by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) during May to discuss the Notice of Preparation of a Draft Environmental Impact Report for Los Angeles International Airport’s (LAX) Specific Plan Amendment Study.

The first meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 7, from 6 to 9 p.m., with presentations at 6:15 and 7:30 p.m. The second meeting will be held on Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to noon, with presentations at 9:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.  The meetings will be held in the Proud Bird Restaurant, 11022 Aviation Boulevard, in Los Angeles.

The proposed project consists of a Specific Plan Amendment Study, including related amendments to the adopted LAX Plan and LAX Specific Plan.  Potential amendments will be identified through evaluation of potential alternative designs, technologies and configurations for the LAX Master Plan Program that will provide solutions to the problems that certain LAX Master Plan projects, referred to as Yellow Light Projects, were designed to address, and are consistent with a practical capacity of  LAX at 78.9 million annual passengers.  This is the same practical capacity as included in the approved LAX Master Plan.

Yellow Light Projects are subject to particular approval procedures in the LAX Specific Plan and include the following:

·         Develop a GroundTransportationCenter (GTC).

·         Construct an Automated People Mover 2 (APM2) from the GTC to the Central Terminal Area (CTA).

·         Demolish CTA Terminals 1, 2 and 3.

·         Reconfigure the runway, including center taxiways.

·         Make on-site road improvements associated with the GTC and APM2.

Potential environmental effects that may result from the proposed alternatives include aesthetics, air quality, biological resources, hazards and hazardous materials, hydrology/water quality, land use/planning, noise, public services, transportation/traffic and public utilities.

The Notice of Preparation is available online at www.OurLAX.org Specific Plan Amendment Study, and in the offices of the Los Angeles City Clerk and the Los Angeles County Clerk. For more information or to request a copy, call (310) 646-7690.

Responses to the Notice of Preparation should be received no later than Wednesday, June 18. Responses should be sent to Herb Glasgow, Senior City Planner, City of Los Angeles World Airports, 1 World Way, Room 218, Los Angeles, CA90045.
