AIRPORT AWARDS CONTRACT FOR SOUND INSULATION FOR 42 MORE HOMES
(Los Angeles, California – July 21, 2009) The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today awarded a contract to Karabuild Development, Inc. of Inglewood for portions of the work being undertaken as part of Los Angeles International Airport’s (LAX’s) Residential Soundproofing Program.
The contract to Karabuild Development, Inc. for $1,512,498 covers sound-insulation modifications on 42 dwelling units (38 single-family residences and two duplexes), all within Los Angeles City Council District 8.
The overall LAX Residential Soundproofing Program includes more than 9,400 residences in the Los Angeles communities of South Los Angeles, Westchester and Playa del Rey with a recorded Community Noise Equivalent Level (CNL) of 65 decibels or higher. Contractors typically install double-paned windows, solid-core doors, fireplace doors and dampers, attic baffles, insulation and heating-ventilation-air conditioning (HVAC) to achieve a noise level reduction of approximately one-half in a home’s interior.
The 42 dwelling units in this project will bring the total units completed, under construction, or approved by the Board to date to 6,520. The remaining 2,880 units are either in the design phase, awaiting commencement of design, or the owners have not responded or declined to participate.
The program is administered by the Los Angeles World Airports Residential Soundproofing Bureau. A community office at 8939 South Sepulveda Boulevard inWestchester is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
