LAWA’s Business & Job Resources Center Launches New Outreach Initiative and Web Site to Facilitate Airport-Related Economic Growth

BJRC enhances focus on connecting local businesses and job-seekers

for opportunities with LAWA divisions, tenants and prime contractors

(Los Angeles, California – May 27, 2009)  Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) today announced its Business & JobResourcesCenter’s (BJRC) new outreach initiative and web site, both are expected to significantly strengthen BJRC’s role as a critically important link between LAWA and the community.  The new web site is www.lawa.org/bjrc.

LAWA is the Los AngelesCity department that owns and operates Los Angeles International (LAX), LA/Ontario International (ONT) and Van Nuys (VNY) airports.

“The BJRC is committed to the shared economic interests of LAWA, its tenants, prime contractors and, most importantly, the emerging businesses, job-seekers and students in the communities impacted most by LAWA’s projects and activities,” said BJRC Director Joyce Sloss.

“One of our core values is ensuring that local businesses and community residents enjoy full participation and access to airport contracting and employment opportunities,” Sloss added.  “At this critical juncture in our history and economy, we are more committed than ever to initiating programs that stimulate business and create jobs.”

The new initiative and web site support BJRC’s four service areas by increasing awareness and access to the wealth of resources the Center has to offer.  “They are designed to communicate the value of partnering with the BJRC to access resources within the local community, while at the same time educating job-seekers, students and emerging businesses on how best to take advantage of opportunities related to the modernization of LAX,” Sloss explained.

“Our business and employment outreach, educational internships and bond assistance programs are empowering and enriching the communities that fuel LAWA’s growth and its vital contribution to our local economy,” Sloss said.  “Our new interactive web site is designed to be a ‘One-Stop Shop’ for our business and community stakeholders for greater transparency and access to airport business and employment opportunities, and educational internships for local students.”
