LAX REPORT ON EUROPEON FLIGHTS: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 21

LAX Report on European flights:  Wednesday, April 21

With the airspace over the U.K. and the rest of Europe open today, LAX's regular schedule of 17 departing flights to the U.K. and Europe are expected to operate today, along with 16 arriving flights (there is only 1 cancelled arriving flight). However, many of the flights are expected to be significantly delayed fdepending upon the time flights from Europe arrive and the planes are cleaned and prepared for turn-around to Europe. An estimated 3,000 passengers of the tens of thousands who were on cancelled flights since last Thursday still need to be accommodated on available seats during the next few days, as the European airlines at LAX continue to work through their backlog. The airlines are reporting that many local residents have cancelled or postponed their European travel, which has freed up seats for stranded passengers -- all of whom are on "standby."

Airport officials continue to advise all passengers departing for Europe to check directly with their airlines on flight status before coming to the airport.
