SUNDAY REPORT: LAX flight cancellations due to volcanic ash

 

Flight operations to the UK and Europe are still being disrupted today, Sunday, April 18, due to temporary closure of air space over that area of the world resulting from the volcanic eruption in Iceland on Wednesday, April 14.

  At LAX today, April 18, 18 arriving flights and 15 departing flights (33 total) have been cancelled by airlines serving London/Heathrow, Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Zurich.  The estimated number of passengers affected is  8,250.

 

At LAX Saturday, April 17, 15 arriving flights and 14 departing flights (29 total) were cancelled by airlines serving London/Heathrow, Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Zurich.  The number of passengers affected was approximately  5,100.

 

On Friday, April 16, 10 arriving flights and 13 departing flights (23 total) were cancelled, impacting approximately 6,500 passengers.

 

On Thursday, April 15, 8 arriving flights and 9 departure flights (17 total) were cancelled, impacting approximately 4,500 passengers.

 

The combined, four-day impacts are 102 total arrival and departure flight cancellations, impacting approximately 24,250 passengers.

Passengers booked on flights to the UK and Europe are advised to check with their airlines on flight status before coming to the airport.
