TRAFFIC ADVISORY --LADWP ANNOUNCES TEMPORARY POWER SHUTDOWN IN CENTRAL TERMINAL AREA AT LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
(Los Angeles, California -- July 11, 2011) The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has notified Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) that it will temporarily shut down power to part of the Central Terminal Area at LAX, on Tuesday, July 12 from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. for critical adjustments to electrical power transformers.
The shutdown will only impact the Central Utility Plant, Parking Structures 2A, 2B, 3, 4, 5 and 6, along with their respective elevators, as well as adjacent traffic lights and signals. There will be no impact to passenger terminals, ticketing desks, security screening or aircraft operations. Although the adjustments are expected to be completed within 20 minutes, the three- hour window will be put into effect because each traffic signal has to be shut down and restarted individually during the power switch to and from generators and to allow for contingencies. Los Angeles Airport Police will staff the intersections with personnel to assist with pedestrian and traffic control.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel to and from LAX.
