CREWS OF CALIFORNIA RAISES $30,000 AT LAX AIRPORT TO HELP UNITED WAY OF GREATER LOS ANGELES FIGHT POVERTY

Crews of California, a retailer and food-and- beverage provider at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), donated $30,000 to United Way of Greater Los Angeles’ Creating Pathways Out of Poverty fund.  The company presented United Way with a check today at its Terminal 1 retail location.  Los Angeles City Councilmember Bill Rosendahl and executives from United Way and the airport attended the presentation.

“Crews of California’s charitable donation to United Way’s Creating Pathways Out of Poverty fund is an admirable achievement,” said Rosendahl.  “The money will strengthen our community by helping individuals break the cycle of poverty in the greater Los Angeles area.”

Crews of California raised $24,456.64 by placing donation boxes in their news stands throughout LAX during 2010, and then matched more then 20 percent of the collections to bring the total donation to $30,000.

“When we are chosen to do business in an airport, we see a greater responsibility than just providing excellent customer service.  We seek to engage our customers to help make the larger community a better place for everyone,” said Crews of California Chief Operating Officer Deborah Crews.

“I applaud Crews of California’s efforts to raise funds for United Way,” said Los Angeles World Airports Executive Director Gina Marie Lindsey.  “The company has gone above and beyond providing customer service to airport passengers by also helping to improve the lives of families in need in Los Angeles.”

United Way’s Creating Pathways out of Poverty fund seeks to end poverty across Los Angeles by focusing on permanent supportive housing for the chronically homeless, supporting middle school students to achieve high school graduation, and providing motivated adults with the training and financial tools they need to thrive.

“We thank Crews for their commitment to helping solve the problems of those facing the toughest time in our community.  Crews vividly demonstrates the enormous possibilities businesses have in making a better community for us all,” said United Way of Los Angeles Chief Administrative Officer Marie Wiest.
