Update #4 and FINAL -- Saturday, March 12, 2011, at 5:00 am PST

 

Most flights between LAX and Tokyo/Narita or Tokyo/Haneda airports are resuming today.  Airport officials anticipate remaining airlines will return to normal operations on Sunday.  Passengers to Japan are advised to check with their airlines (websites or reservations phone) on the status of their flights.  This is the FINAL update.  Following is today's flight schedule:

4.  Singapore 012 from Narita ETA 0900 hours

Update #3 on Friday, March 11, 2011, at 7 p.m. PST
Two airlines at LAX report they plan to resume operations to and from Tokyo tomorrow, Saturday, March 12.  Information about other flights is not expected until later tonight.  Currently, there are no reports of stranded passengers in the terminals. 

Again, ALL passengers to Japan are advised to check with their airlines (websites or reservations phone) on the status of their flights.

Following flights are confirmed for Saturday, March 12:  

  1. (Reported earlier) Delta #635 to Haneda ETD 0005 hours (after midnight) 
  2.  Delta Flight 284 from Tokyo/Narita:   ETA 0845 hrs.; outbound Flight 283 ETD 1130 hrs.
  3.  New: Singapore Airlines Flight 12 from Tokyo/Narita:   ETA 0900 hrs.; outbound Flight 11 ETD 1030 hrs. (irregular schedule)

Update #2 on Friday, March 11, 2011, at 4:02 p.m. PST

Following is an update on flights to Tokyo/Narita and Tokyo/Haneda airports for TODAY, following the re-opening of those two airports a short while ago.  The following two airlines reported they will operate flights that were announced earlier as cancelled, due to high demand from their passengers to "return home."  Other airlines at LAX are waiting until they receive assurances that if they operate their Tokyo flights, that passengers will be able to leave the airports.  Again, ALL passengers to Japan are advised to check with their airlines (websites or reservations phone) on the status of their flights.

 

1.            Korean Air #2 ETD 1400 hours departed LAX-Narita-Seoul (regular route)

2.            Delta #635 to Haneda ETD 0005 hours (Saturday)

 

Update #1 on Friday, March 11, 2011, at 9:08 a.m. PST

Following are flight cancellations at LAX for TODAY in the aftermath of an 8.9 earthquake that struck Japan about 2:46 pm Japan local time.  The following inbound and outbound flights at LAX from Tokyo (Narita and Haneda airports)are impacted today.   Travelers are advised to contact their airlines (website or reservations number) for the most up-to-date information on flight delays and cancellations.  There are little to no passengers in the affected terminals, as airlines report they notified passengers.  

 

CANCELLATIONS:

1.       Delta #284 from Narita:  ETA 0830 hours; Outbound #283 ETD 1200 hours

2.       All Nippon Airways #006 from Narita:  ETA 0945; Outbound #5 ETD 1135 hours

3.       Japan Airlines #62 from Narita: ETA 0950 hours; Outbound #61 ETD 1150 am

4.       Delta #636 from Haneda:  ETA 1805 hours; Outbound #635 ETD 0005 hours (Saturday morning after midnight)

5.       AA #170 from Narita:  ETA 0920 hours; Outbound #169 ETD 1140 hours

6.       UAL #890 from Narita: ETA 0950 hours; Outbound #891 ETD 1150

7.       Korean Airlines #1 from Narita: ETA 0745 hours already airborne);

8.       ANA #1006 from Haneda:  ETA 1655 hours; outbound #1005 ETD 0010 hours 

 

UNKNOWN STATUS:

9.       Singapore #12: ETA 1900 hours (normal ETA 1115); outbound ETD #11 normal 1315 (Singapore to Fukioka to Narita to LAX) -- unable to reach SQ LAX office at this point in time.
