LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS LAUNCHES WEB PAGE TO PROVIDE ACCURATE DATA, FACTS ON LA/ONTARIO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) today launched a page on its Internet website in order to provide accurate data and facts related to LAWA’s ownership and management of LA/Ontario International Airport (ONT). The webpage can be accessed at: www.lawa.org/ont/LAOntario.aspx .
The webpage, called “LA/ONTario, The Facts,” was developed in response to considerable discussion on the political level and in the media examining the underlying reasons for passenger declines at ONT.
LAWA Executive Director Gina Marie Lindsey said that while she does not expect this information will end debate about the future of ONT, she does hope it will add to the quality of data that frames the discussion.
LAWA officials attribute the loss of passengers at ONT to the recession, the slow economic recovery of the Inland Empire, as well as changes in the airline industry that focus on building service at large hub airports at the expense of medium-hub airports such as ONT.
LAWA officials report that since taking over ownership and operation of ONT in 1967, LAWA has expanded ONT’s original 485 acres of land to approximately 1,700 acres today, and has invested over half a billion dollars in improvements.
