AIRPORT POLICE OFFICERS RECOGNIZED AT BOARD OF AIRPORT COMMISSIONER’S MEETING FOR VARIOUS ACCOMPLISHMENTS

 

(Los Angeles, California – January 23, 2012)  Los Angeles World Airports Executive Director Gina Marie Lindsey will acknowledge interim Police Chief Michael Hyams. Sergeant’s Masis Sossikian and Dennis Lau and police Officer Pedro Uesugui, who are currently assigned to the Airport Police Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit, Officers Robert Mosquera and Thi Tran, who are currently assigned to the Patrol Services Section and Security Officer Jose Luis Miranda who is currently assigned to the Traffic Services Section, during the Board of Airport Commissioners meeting scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today.

On January 15, 2012, Chief Hyams was appointed to serve as interim Chief of Airport Police. Chief Hyams has a diverse law enforcement background which includes 25 years of senior management and supervisory experience and nine years as a police legal advisor and professional standards expert. Chief Michael Hyams will take over all roles and responsibilities as head of the fourth largest police agency in Los Angeles County until the appointment of a permanent Airport Police Chief.

On January 18, 2012, Airport Police Sergeant Masis Sossikian and Dennis Lau and Officer Pedro Uesugui were honorees at the Inglewood Annual Police & Fire Appreciation Day Luncheon. Sgt. Sossikian, a 13 ½-year veteran, Sgt. Lau, a 10-year veteran and officer Uesugui, an eight-year veteran, were recognized for their participation in the planning, programming, and  execution of LAWA’s new digital Trunked Radio, License Plate Recognition and In-Car Video Systems. These officers successfully coordinated the various projects with LAWA’s Information and Technology Group, vendors and members of every rank of the Airport Police Division. Their leadership, talent, and dedication brought these projects to full fruition. Co-hosted by the Inglewood Chamber of Commerce and the Inglewood Rotary Club, the Police and Fire Appreciation Day event was established to recognize the finest men and women, who serve and protect the community.

On January 1, 2012, Airport Police Officer Robert Mosquera, a four year veteran and Thi Tran with two years with the Department, were recognized for saving the life of a 49 year old female who was having a heart attack. Victim Etel Martinez had collapsed on the sidewalk at Terminal 2, while walking her sister to the ticket counter. After responding to a call for help, Officer Mosquera began Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) while Officer Tran retrieved the Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Working together, the officers used the AED and continued CPR until Martinez began breathing again. The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics arrived and quickly transported Martinez to a local hospital for further medical treatment.

Airport Police Security Officer Jose Luis Miranda, a 10-year veteran was recognized for his outstanding customer service during the Thanksgiving holiday. Officer Miranda was nominated the winner in the LAX Airport “Neutralize Irritations Customers Experience (N.I.C.E.)” incentive program. Officer Miranda was part of the leadership team of traffic officers in charge of keeping the vehicular traffic moving throughout the airport in a courteous-friendly manner, during the busy Thanksgiving holiday.
