LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT REPORTS PASSENGER LEVEL UP 3.6 PERCENT DURING FIRST HALF OF 2012
(Los Angeles, California – August 9, 2012) Passenger volume at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) between January and June 2012 rose 3.6 percent to 30,943,155 passengers from 29,873,512 during the same period last year, according to statistics released recently by airport officials. International passenger level grew three percent during the first six months of 2012 to 8,333,316 from 8,090,708 last year. Domestic traffic grew 3.8 percent to 22,609,839 passengers during the first half this year from 21,782,804 in 2011.
Total air cargo tonnage increased 5.4 percent during the first six months of 2012 to 964,360 tons from 915,147 in 2011. Freight increased 4.5 percent to 914,522 tons during the first six months of this year compared to 875,317 last year. Air mail increased 25 percent to 49,838 tons during the first half 2012 from 39,830 tons during the same period last year.
For June 2012, total passenger volume rose 1.9 percent to 5,742,834 from 5,631,716 last year. Domestic traffic rose one percent to 4,181,350 passengers from 4,139,190 passengers in June 2011. International traffic increased 4.6 percent to 1,561,484 passengers from 1,492,526 passengers in June 2011.
For June 2012 air cargo tonnage was down 2.2 percent to 161,011 tons from 164,618 tons last June. Air mail tonnage decreased 5.7 percent to 5,985 tons from 6,345 tons last year. Freight also declined two percent to 155,026 tons in June 2012 from 158,273 last year.
