LA/ONTARIO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT HOSTS EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT EVENT FOR ONTARIO YMCA STUDENTS

(Ontario, California June 6, 2012) --- LA/Ontario International Airport (ONT) today hosted a fun-filled festivity to recognize and reward the academic achievements of 60 young students from the Ontario YMCA.  The event was held at the Ontario YMCA facility and included various activities such as a bucket brigade, and basketball and baseball toss.  The students were also treated to a barbecue luncheon and airport summer activity bags.

“The airport’s Community & Public Relations and Aircraft Rescue & Firefighting (ARFF) Divisions have been organizing these great events for the past five years to celebrate the achievements of local students,” said Airport Manager Jess Romo.  “This is our first year with the Ontario YMCA students.  In previous years, we’ve hosted events for students from the Upland Community Partnership for Youth Development and Ontario Salvation Army after-school programs. We also host an annual holiday reception for student achievers at the airport’s fire station.  It’s our way of introducing young students to the fascinating world of aviation.”

ONT’s Community & Public Relations Division has a long history of partnering with local groups and organizations, and educational agencies.  For over 60 years, the airport has been an active and involved member of its surrounding communities through a number of programs and activities including airport presentations and tours, fundraisers, special events, and sponsorships.  Today, ONT is proud to support its on-site partners including the Ontario USO, Baldy View Regional Occupational Program (ROP), Travelers Aid of the Inland Empire, and Friends of Ontario Airport.

“We’re a good neighbor,” said Jess Romo.  “Sometimes it’s overshadowed by airport issues such as noisy airplanes and delayed flights.  But at the end of the day, we not only transport people, we give back to the community.”

ONT is located in the Inland Empire, approximately 35 miles of downtown Los Angeles in the center of Southern California.  It is a medium-hub, full-service airport with commercial service to 15 major U.S. cities and through service to many international destinations.  There are approximately 114 daily flights offered by 7 carriers.  For more information about ONT, visit www.lawa.aero, like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ONTAirport , and follow us on Twitter atwww.twitter.com/ONT_Official .
