LAFD ASSISTANT CHIEF JOINS HOMELAND SECURITY TEAM AT LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS
(Los Angeles, California -- June 4, 2012) Through a new joint initiative with the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), Assistant Fire Chief Timothy Manning has been appointed Fire Operations Chief for Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA). In this position he will serve as the commanding chief officer for fire department resources and programs at Los Angeles International and Van Nuys airports.
Chief Manning is a 34-year veteran of the LAFD and most recently served as the commanding officer of LAFD’s Special Operations Division, which includes the Arson Counter-Terrorism, Disaster Preparedness, and Air Operations Sections. He previously served as the commanding officer of LAFD’s Tactical Planning Division, director of the City’s Emergency Operations Center, and commanding officer of LAFD’s Field Incident Management Team.
During his career, he has managed or deployed several innovative fire and emergency medical service programs, including bicycle medical teams serving LAX and the nationally-recognized Community Emergency Response Team program.

The LAFD provides fire suppression, emergency medical service, disaster preparedness, fire inspection, and specialized Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting services at LAX and Van Nuys airports. Chief Manning will oversee these services and work as part of the division-level leadership team to increase coordination, planning, and response capabilities.
Manning graduated with honors from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science degree in business management. He is also a graduate of the University of Southern California and the Ashby Institute’s management programs.
