LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR NAMED HONORARY FIRE CHIEF

(Los Angeles California – May 9, 2013)  Los Angeles World Airports Executive Director Gina Marie Lindsey has been selected Los Angeles Fire Department’s (LAFD) Honorary Fire Chief for its annual Fire Service Recognition Day on May 11.

Lindsey was selected as the Honorary Fire Chief based on “her continued commitment to public and passenger safety.  Her support, collaboration and leadership have also been instrumental in the Los Angeles Fire Department’s ability to provide world-class service to the communities surrounding Los Angeles International Airport,” Fire Chief Brian Cummings said.

As part of the day’s activities, Lindsey will receive a morning tour and briefing on fire department resources at Aircraft Rescue and Fire-Fighting (ARFF) Station 80 at LAX. This tour will be followed at noon at Fire Station 5 by a formal presentation to her of accoutrements signifying her honorary position, including a commemorative Fire Chief’s helmet.

ARFF Station 80, located within the airport at 6911 World Way West, provides aircraft crash rescue and fire-fighting services to LAX.  Fire Station 5, located at 8900 South Emerson Avenue in the adjacent community of Westchester, also serves LAX.  Another facility, Fire Station 95, located at 10010 International Road, also services LAX as well as the Century Boulevard hotel corridor.

Fire Service Recognition Day is held annually on the second Saturday of May to heighten public awareness of fire department services.  This year’s theme is “Providing Exceptional Customer Service – Anytime, Anyplace.”  During this year’s open house, the LAFD will highlight its firefighters’ commitment to ensuring the satisfaction of those they are sworn to serve.

In addition to tours, fire-fighting demonstrations and special displays of LAFD equipment will be presented to the public at neighborhood fire stations throughout the city between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on May 11.  Fire Stations 5 and 95 will be focal points of the day’s celebration for communities surrounding LAX.
