Two-week Nightly Closure on Century Boulevard (Nov. 10-Nov. 21) Will Mark Beginning of Construction of Aviation/Century Light Rail Aerial Station
Construction of the foundation for the Aviation/Century light rail aerial station that will serve the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project will begin Monday night, Nov. 10. Over the next two weeks until Nov. 21, construction will necessitate closure of the westbound lanes on Century Boulevard between Aviation Boulevard and Bellanca Avenue near LAX nightly Monday to Friday.
Metro and Walsh/Shea Corridor Constructors have scheduled work from 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10 through 6 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21 in the Century Boulevard median.
During these two weeks the eastbound lanes will be fully open except for an intermittent lane reduction for two nights to be determined.
The contractor will be drilling two holes 25-feet apart on the Century Boulevard median –each hole will be 80-feet deep and 7-feet in diameter-, to install re-bar piles for the two columns that will support the future aerial station. The re-bars piles will be filled with concrete.
Travelers headed to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) during the two week period are advised to consider taking an alternative route.
Detours signs will be posted throughout the duration of the night-time closure.
Emergency access will be maintained during working hours and noise levels from construction will be monitored.
Westbound detour:
If traveling westbound on Century Boulevard, turn right at Aviation Boulevard, turn left at Arbor Vitae Street, turn left at Airport Boulevard and turn right at Century Boulevard.
The 8.5-mile Crenshaw/LAX Line is a $2.058 billion light-rail line that will connect the Green Line and the Expo Line. It will have eight new stations. It is expected to open in 2019.
