YOUTH ESTEEM CORPORATION EVENT GIVES 200 STUDENTS SCHOOL SUPPLIES THANKS TO AIRPORT POLICE SUPPORT
(Los Angeles, California – August 5, 2014) On Saturday August 2nd, Los Angeles Airport Police Youth Cadets participated in the third Annual Backpack School Supply Donation Drive event organized and hosted by Airport Police and the Youth Esteem Corporation (YEC) at the Airport Police Arbor Vitae Training Center. Youth Esteem Corporation is a non-profit organization that strives to make a positive impact on at-risk youth in Los Angeles.
YEC’s work aims to make a difference in the lives of children, youth, parents and the community by providing at-risk children and young adults with education, youth development, mentorship, job training, life skills and community outreach to empower self-sufficient, stable, safe and productive individuals.
"Donating school supplies is a worthy cause to benefit children in need," Los Angeles Airport Police Chief Patrick Gannon said. "By arming these children with the proper tools, we dramatically improve their ability to learn and give area kids the ability to start the school year off right."
Through the support of the Los Angeles Airport Police, YEC was able to provide over 200 at-risk children in the Los Angeles area who were in need of school supplies with backpacks, crayons, markers, binders, pens, pencils, writing paper, rulers, scissors, sharpeners, note pads, tablets and a variety of other miscellaneous items.
The Los Angeles Airport Police Division is the nation's premier aviation law enforcement agency with over 1,100 specially trained police officers, security officers, and civilian staff protecting Los Angeles International, LA/Ontario International and Van Nuys airports.

LAX, the sixth-busiest airport in the world serving nearly 66 million guests in 2022, is owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), a proprietary, revenue-generating department of the City of Los Angeles that also governs Van Nuys Airport (VNY). As the international gateway to the Southern California region, LAX and its partners are dedicated to meeting global airport standards for customer satisfaction, safety, regional economic leadership, organizational performance and sustainability.
To better serve the millions of domestic and international guests that travel through LAX each year, the airport is undergoing a multi-billion-dollar capital improvement program to modernize its entire campus. Initiatives underway include an Automated People Mover, a Consolidated Rental Car Facility and two projects that will each add over one million square feet to the airport's existing property: Terminal 9 and Concourse 0.
