LAX ISSUES TRAVEL ADVISORY FOR "CENTURY CRUNCH"
(Los Angeles, California – July 15, 2014) Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has issued a travel advisory complete with public transit information and tips to help avoid traffic congestion caused by the Century Crunch, a 57-hour closure of Century Blvd. at Aviation July 25 through 28, which is expected to be one of the busiest weekends of the summer travel season.

The closure is taking place so an old railroad bridge at the intersection can be demolished and allow for the future construction of a new Century/Aviation light rail station. Demolition will close a portion of Century Boulevard, a major artery leading into LAX during one of the busiest travel times of the year. It also will restrict traffic on Aviation Boulevard. An estimated 92,800 motorist’s travel through that intersection on a daily basis.
"Nearly one-third of vehicles enter LAX through Century Blvd. so we expect the Century Crunch will directly impact passengers," Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) Executive Director Gina Marie Lindsey said. "By providing this travel advisory complete with a list of our projections for passenger traffic that weekend and helpful information on public transit options, we can warn travelers about the congestion this closure will cause and help the public to better plan ahead."
