MEETINGS SCHEDULED BY LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS TO OBTAIN COMMENTS FROM DISABILITY COMMUNITY ABOUT PROGRAMS AND SERVICES IT OFFERS
(Los Angeles, California – May 15, 2014) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has scheduled two public forums for the disability community to provide input on any barriers to public programs and services offered at Los Angeles International, LA/Ontario International, and Van Nuys airports.
These meetings will provide an opportunity for interested persons, including individuals with disabilities or organizations representing individuals with disabilities, to participate in a self-evaluation process by submitting their comments. This self-evaluation process is currently underway and is mandated by Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The meetings will be held at:
· LA/Ontario International Airport Administration Building, 1923 East Avion Street, on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 10 a.m. to noon, City of Ontario.
· Flight Path Museum and Learning Center at LAX, 6661 West Imperial Highway, on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., City of Los Angeles.
Individuals and organizations that cannot attend may send their comments to: Lawrence J. Rolon, Coordinator for Disability Services, Los Angeles World Airports, 1 World Way, Los Angeles, CA 90045. Additional information is available by e-mailing: jrolon@lawa.org , or by calling (424) 646-5005 (via CA Relay 711).
Sign language interpreters, communication-access real-time transcription, assistive listening devices, or other auxiliary aids and/or services may be provided upon request. To ensure availability, requests should be made at least 72 hours prior to the meeting. Due to difficulties in securing sign language interpreters, five or more business days’ notice is strongly recommended.
LAX, the sixth-busiest airport in the world serving nearly 66 million guests in 2022, is owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), a proprietary, revenue-generating department of the City of Los Angeles that also governs Van Nuys Airport (VNY). As the international gateway to the Southern California region, LAX and its partners are dedicated to meeting global airport standards for customer satisfaction, safety, regional economic leadership, organizational performance and sustainability.
To better serve the millions of domestic and international guests that travel through LAX each year, the airport is undergoing a multi-billion-dollar capital improvement program to modernize its entire campus. Initiatives underway include an Automated People Mover, a Consolidated Rental Car Facility and two projects that will each add over one million square feet to the airport's existing property: Terminal 9 and Concourse 0. As a covered entity under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the City of Los Angeles does not discriminate on the basis of disability and, upon request, will provide reasonable accommodation to ensure equal access to its programs, services, and activities. Alternative formats in large print, braille, audio, and other forms (if possible) will be provided upon request.
