LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT HOSTS ANNUAL JOB SHADOW DAY FOR LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS
(Los Angeles, California – February 26, 2015) Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Community Relations Division hosted its annual Job Shadow Day. This is part of a nation-wide event dedicated to giving young people real-life “job shadowing” experiences.
“LAX Community Relations coordinates the program to provide job shadowing opportunities in aviation-related and aviation support careers at a major airport,” said Maria Tesoro, director of LAX Community Relations.
Job shadowing provides students the opportunity to “work” side-by-side with a workplace mentor as they go through a normal day on the job. It provides an up-close look at how the skills learned in the classroom are put into action in the workplace.
More than 90 students from Westchester Enriched Sciences Magnet High School’s Aviation and Aerospace section, Saint Bernard’s High, Orville Wright Enriched Sciences Magnet and Judge Albert Monroe Middle Schools participated. All of the schools are in the LAX area. Orville Wright and Westchester have aviation and science magnet curriculums.
This year, students had job shadow experiences in the fields of Accounting, Airfield Operations, Airlines, Aviation Services, Aviation Law Enforcement, Business Administration, Engineering, Environmental Management, Human Resources, Information Technology and Law.
