LAX MARKS NEXT PHASE OF MULTI-BILLION-DOLLAR MODERNIZATION WITH CAMPAIGN TO KEEP PUBLIC UP-TO-DATE ON PROGRESS

‘LAX is Happening’ Campaign Adds Animated Videos to Inform Travelers About Airport Improvements; Provides Updated Traveler Tips on Navigating Construction

The campaign builds on the use of visually memorable and colorful icons – introduced in the campaign’s first phase in 2014 – that help guide travelers to information on improvements, as well as important travel and traffic tips. For 2015, these icons have been brought to life in new humorous animated video shorts .

These shareable animated videos include highlights of overall modernization: “Your layover is getting a makeover;” to new retail options – “Shop ‘til you depart;”to pointing travelers to useful traffic tips and shortcuts – “Airport traffic can be a pain in the asphalt.” The icons and videos also translate universally for the millions of international travelers coming through LAX each year. Watch videos here

In addition to featuring real-time LAX vehicle traffic conditions and pedestrian walking maps, the site has been refreshed with a breaking news section and new travel and traffic tips. Information on specific terminal-by-terminal impacts and improvements will soon be added. The site also includes a live stream of the airport’s @FlyLAXAirport Twitter feed, and links to project fact sheets and other easy-to-access updates. Using responsive design technology, the site is optimized for desktop, tablet and mobile use to help travelers on-the-go stay connected and plan ahead from any device.

Major LAX modernization projects currently planned or underway include construction of a secured T4 Connector between Terminal 4 and the new $1.9-billion Tom Bradley International Terminal; renovations of Terminals 1 and 5; a $118-million Curbside Appeal Project, which will provide a new, dramatically upgraded exterior along the Central Terminal Area (CTA) loop; a number of new traffic safety and roadway improvements, including an Upper/Departures Level retrofit; new inline baggage-handling and screening systems; new escalators, elevators and moving walkways; a replacement Central Utility Plant to more efficiently heat and cool all Central Terminal Area facilities; more electrical charging stations; as well as renovations and upgrades in the other terminals at LAX.

All enhancements are part of the ongoing $8.5 billion LAX Modernization Program, which is funded by operating revenues, capital improvement program funds, fees from airlines, passenger facility charges and airport revenue bond proceeds. No money from the Los Angeles City General Fund is being used for modernization improvements.
