LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS PROVIDES SOUND INSULATION FUNDING FOR PROJECTS IN INGLEWOOD UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
(Los Angeles, California – September 11, 2015)
FIRST INSTALLMENT—Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) representatives present a $10 million ceremonial check to the Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) for its Classroom Noise Mitigation Program during the District’s board meeting. The symbolic check is part of a total of $44.4 million that LAWA is giving to the District to sound insulate six schools. The $10 million will be used to sound insulate Payne and Woodworth elementary schools, and the Child Development Center at Woodworth. Other campuses that will be involved in the noise mitigation effort include Oak Elementary School, Monroe Elementary, Monroe Middle School, and Morningside High School. Participating in the ceremony are, from left: IUSD Advisory Board Members Dr. D'Artagnan Scorza and Dr. Carliss Richardson McGhee; Lisa Trifiletti, director of Environmental and Land Use Planning Division, Los Angeles World Airports; Dr. Don Brann, IUSD State Trustee; Georgianna Streeter, program manager, Sound Insulation Grant Program, Environmental and Land Use Planning Division, Los Angeles World Airports; and IUSD Advisory Board Member Melody Ngaue-Tuuholoaki. The action follows an announcement earlier this year that the Federal Aviation Administration had approved LAWA’s funding of this program
LAX, the sixth-busiest airport in the world serving nearly 66 million guests in 2022, is owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), a proprietary, revenue-generating department of the City of Los Angeles that also governs Van Nuys Airport (VNY). As the international gateway to the Southern California region, LAX and its partners are dedicated to meeting global airport standards for customer satisfaction, safety, regional economic leadership, organizational performance and sustainability.
To better serve the millions of domestic and international guests that travel through LAX each year, the airport is undergoing a multi-billion-dollar capital improvement program to modernize its entire campus. Initiatives underway include an Automated People Mover, a Consolidated Rental Car Facility and two projects that will each add over one million square feet to the airport's existing property: Terminal 9 and Concourse 0.
