JOIN VAN NUYS AIRPORT IN A WEEK-LONG AVIATION ACADEMY EXPERIENCE

(Van Nuys Airport, California – May 21, 2015)

Selected students from high school and middle schools will spend a week of their summer vacation traveling Los Angeles County to explore the world of aviation. During the free, week long Aviation Careers Education (ACE) Academy hosted by Van Nuys Airport (VNY), students will receive a first-hand look at aviation related career opportunities, as well as tips for entering the industry.

Participants will be selected based on their desire to learn about aviation and will visit various facilities including Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Long Beach Airport (LGB), Santa Monica Museum of Flying and tours of iconic businesses in the industry. They will learn directly from experienced individuals in the aviation field including airline pilots, veterans, mechanics and aviation professionals.

The ACE Academy’s main objective is to educate students about the aviation industry and to provide them the opportunity to explore different career options that are not commonly known in the aviation field.

VNY’s ACE Academy will begin July 13 – July 17 for middle school students and continue

July 27 – 31, for high school students. Applications must be submitted by June 5, 2015.

About Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
LAX, the sixth-busiest airport in the world serving nearly 66 million guests in 2022, is owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), a proprietary, revenue-generating department of the City of Los Angeles that also governs Van Nuys Airport (VNY). As the international gateway to the Southern California region, LAX and its partners are dedicated to meeting global airport standards for customer satisfaction, safety, regional economic leadership, organizational performance and sustainability.

To better serve the millions of domestic and international guests that travel through LAX each year, the airport is undergoing a multi-billion-dollar capital improvement program to modernize its entire campus. Initiatives underway include an Automated People Mover, a Consolidated Rental Car Facility and two projects that will each add over one million square feet to the airport's existing property: Terminal 9 and Concourse 0.
