LAX ANNOUNCES FAA TO CONDUCT TEMPORARY FLIGHT CHECK OPERATIONS, DEC. 14 TO DEC. 18, 2015

 

              The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will be conducting flight check operations at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) from Monday, December 14 through Friday, December 18 to ensure that the Instrument Landing System (ILS) and other navigational equipment are working properly.  These flight checks will require LAX to temporarily deviate from normal traffic flow configuration for a few hours each day during that week.

On each of these days, from 12 midnight to 4 a.m., LAX is expected to remain in Westerly Operations (aircraft arriving and departing westbound) to accommodate the FAA flight check operation to test the ILS on the south outboard runway 25L/7R.  After testing is completed each day, from December 14 through December 18, LAX will resume Over-Ocean Operations (aircraft arriving and departing over the ocean) for the remainder of the night, if weather conditions permit.

In addition, LAX will conduct Easterly Operations (aircraft arriving and departing eastbound) on either Wednesday or Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., depending on weather conditions, to enable the FAA’s testing of the ILS during east flow traffic conditions.  Upon completion of the flight test,  LAX will transition to normal Westerly Operations for the remainder of the day.

LAX normally operates in Westerly Operations from 6:30 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., in Over-Ocean Operations from 12 midnight to 6:30 a.m., and in Easterly Operations only when deemed necessary due to weather conditions. However, the FAA’s testing of the navigational equipment requires the airport to temporarily deviate from these normal traffic flow configurations as described.  As a result, persons living near the airport may notice a change in aircraft flight activity and associated noise during this test.
