NORTHBOUND LANES OF SEPULVEDA TUNNEL TO CLOSE NIGHTLY APRIL 25-26: PASSENGERS ADVISED TO ALLOW EXTRA TIME TO REACH LAX
(Los Angeles, California – April 22, 2016) Caltrans has notified airport officials that all northbound lanes of Sepulveda Boulevard from Imperial Highway through the Sepulveda tunnel near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) will close nightly on Monday and Tuesday, April 25-26, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27. Southbound Sepulveda Boulevard through the tunnel will remain open. Airport officials advise passengers to allow extra time to reach LAX.
In addition to the closure of northbound Sepulveda Boulevard through the tunnel, the northbound Sepulveda Boulevard exit from westbound I-105 will be closed. Access to I-105 from I-405 will not be restricted. Caltrans will post detour signage.
The closure is due to Caltrans repair of a damaged culvert. The closure may be extended to Wednesday night, April 27, in which case the northbound Sepulveda tunnel would be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday, April 28.
Motorists heading toward LAX from the south and east can use Century Boulevard to access the Central Terminal Area while the northbound side of the Sepulveda tunnel is closed. Access to LAX is also available via the 96th Street bridge and from southbound Sepulveda Boulevard.
More information about the repair work is available from the Caltrans District 7 Public Affairs Office at 213-897-3656.
LAX, the sixth-busiest airport in the world serving nearly 66 million guests in 2022, is owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), a proprietary, revenue-generating department of the City of Los Angeles that also governs Van Nuys Airport (VNY). As the international gateway to the Southern California region, LAX and its partners are dedicated to meeting global airport standards for customer satisfaction, safety, regional economic leadership, organizational performance and sustainability.
To better serve the millions of domestic and international guests that travel through LAX each year, the airport is undergoing a multi-billion-dollar capital improvement program to modernize its entire campus. Initiatives underway include an Automated People Mover, a Consolidated Rental Car Facility and two projects that will each add over one million square feet to the airport's existing property: Terminal 9 and Concourse 0.
