VAN NUYS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS SHADOW VNY AVIATION EXPERTS
(Van Nuys, California – February 18, 2016) Today, 25 students from Van Nuys High School learned about various exciting aviation career paths through hands-on activities at Van Nuys Airport (VNY). Groundhog Job Shadow Day is held in partnership with Junior Achievement of Southern California and aviation businesses.
Students began their day with a tour of the airfield before shadowing various businesses including Aerolease, Castle & Cooke, Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Fire Station #114, MP Aero, North Valley Occupational Center, Rotor FX, Signature Flight Support, Western Jet, and Van Nuys Airport. “I liked this place (airport) a lot, I am really glad I came! Everyone should come and learn more about the airport,” said Kobe Lopez, Van Nuys High School
Job Shadow Day also benefits employers at VNY who rely on these students to be part of the next generation of aviation workers. “I didn’t mind missing school today, because I learned a lot,” said Jasmin Benitez of Van Nuys High School who wants to be a mechanical engineer.

As the international gateway to the Southern California region, LAX and its partners are dedicated to meeting global airport standards for customer satisfaction, safety, regional economic leadership, organizational performance and sustainability.
To better serve the millions of domestic and international guests that travel through LAX each year, the airport is undergoing a multi-billion-dollar capital improvement program to modernize its entire campus.
