LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT CELEBRATES FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF VOLUNTEER INFORMATION PROFESSIONALS PROGRAM
280 Volunteers to Attend Fifth Annual Recognition Event
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) will celebrate a milestone fifth anniversary of the Volunteer Information Professionals (VIP) Program with its A nnual Volunteer Recognition Dinner on Sunday, July10, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton in Culver City.
Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners Vice President Valeria Velasco will present a City of Los Angeles resolution to highlight the program’s success and address the 280 volunteers and guests. The event will recognize volunteers for their hours and years served at LAX.
Since the program’s inception in 2011, the Volunteer Information Professionals volunteers have assisted more than seven million airport guests and donated a combined 200,000 volunteer hours. Currently, there are approximately 300 VIP volunteers, including 52 volunteers in the Pets Unstressing Passengers (PUP) therapy-dog program.
“We applaud our volunteers for their dedication in providing such great care to our guests from around the world,” said Marie O’Kelly-Green, LAX Guest Services Division manager. “This event allows us to honor our volunteers for the countless hours they serve in creating a friendly, lasting impression of LAX and our great City of Los Angeles.”
VIP volunteers are stationed at information booths in all of LAX’s nine terminals. They assist passengers by providing directions to various airport and community facilities, helping find appropriate transportation and accommodations, and providing sightseeing and hospitality resources in the Los Angeles area. Dressed in red jackets, VIPs are available from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends.
The VIP and PUP programs are part of LAX’s Guest Services Division, which also includes 150 part-time Guest Experience Members.
Applications for both the VIP and PUP programs are available online at www.lawa.org/vip and can be submitted to: VIP Program, 205 World Way, Los Angeles, CA 90045. As the international gateway to the Southern California region, LAX and its partners are dedicated to meeting global airport standards for customer satisfaction, safety, regional economic leadership, organizational performance and sustainability.
To better serve the millions of domestic and international guests that travel through LAX each year, the airport is undergoing a multi-billion-dollar capital improvement program to modernize its entire campus. Initiatives underway include an Automated People Mover, a Consolidated Rental Car Facility and two projects that will each add over one million square feet to the airport's existing property: Terminal 9 and Concourse 0.
