–TRAFFIC ADVISORY–
METRO BRIDGE WORK CLOSES WESTBOUND CENTURY BOULEVARD AT AVIATION BOULEVARD OVERNIGHT NEXT WEEK, WITH EASTBOUND CLOSURES SET TO FOLLOW

(Los Angeles, California – March 31, 2017)  Work to remove the existing “falsework” (framing) used to support construction of the future Aviation/Century Station will require overnight directional closures of Century Boulevard near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) for two weeks starting Monday, April 3.

For the week of April 3-7, Metro will close all westbound (LAX inbound) lanes of Century Boulevard between Aviation Boulevard and Bellanca Avenue starting at 10 p.m. each night.  The work will also require closure of the left-most eastbound lane.  The overnight closures will continue until 6 a.m. the following morning, with no work on Saturday or Sunday nights.

Metro is scheduled to shift the work, closing all eastbound lanes as well as the left-most westbound lane, on Monday, April 10. The work will continue nightly, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and wrap up by early Saturday, April 15.

All schedules are dependent upon weather conditions.

Airport officials recommend departing travelers plan ahead and allow extra time for possible traffic congestion.

Metro will detour traffic around the closure.  When westbound Century Boulevard is closed, automobiles will be diverted north on Aviation Boulevard, west on West Arbor Vitae Street, south on Airport Boulevard, then west on Century Boulevard.  Trucks will be directed to turn north on La Cienega Boulevard, west on West Arbor Vitae Street, south on Airport Boulevard, and then west on Century

Boulevard.   During those weeknights when all eastbound Century Boulevard lanes are closed, all vehicles will be directed north on Airport Boulevard and east onto West Arbor Vitae Street before heading south on Aviation Boulevard to rejoin Century Boulevard.  See detour map below.

Motorists trying to reach LAX can also use four of the six shortcuts offered

on the airport’s “LAX is Happening” website at www.laxishappening.com/getting-around/tips-and-shortcuts.aspx

Updates on real-time traffic conditions in and around LAX will be available by following the Los Angeles Airport Police (@LAAirportPD) and LAX Airport (@flyLAXairport) on Twitter, as well as through the WAZE traffic app.
