LAX PASSENGERS TRAVELING OUT OF TERMINAL 5 ADVISED TO ALLOW FOR EXTRA TIME

UPDATE #3 AT 5:15 p.m. ON FRIDAY JANUARY 13, 2017

Restrooms have reopened inside Terminal 5 at LAX ending an outage caused by a hairline crack in a water main located under the curb lane in front of the terminal on the Lower/Arrivals Level. The crack was discovered just after 10:30 a.m. today.

 

Workers used a clamp to make a temporary repair to the crack and began to fill in the excavated area in front of Terminal 5 while the water lines were flushed for 30 minutes prior to the restrooms reopening.

 

UPDATE #2 at 3:00 p.m. ON FRIDAY JANUARY 13, 2017

Passengers using Terminal 5 at LAX, are advised to arrive early due to a water main break that has forced shutdown of the line.  The curb lane in front of Terminals 5 on the Lower/Arrival Level is closed and heavy construction equipment is being used to excavate the pavement so the water main hairline fracture can be repaired.  Once completed, the pipe will be flushed before the water in Terminal 5 is turned back on.

UPDATE #1 at 1:50 p.m. ON FRIDAY JANUARY 13, 2017

 Water Main Broke at T5 

 

INITIAL STATEMENT

 

(Los Angeles, California – January 13, 2017)  Passengers using Terminal 5 at LAX, are advised to arrive early due to a water main break that has forced shutdown of the line. 

Around 10:30 this morning, a water main break occurred in front of Terminal 5 on the lower arrival level of the Central Terminal Area of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).  The damaged line has been shut down.  Restrooms in Terminal 5 have been closed and portable and ADA-compliant restrooms and hand-wash stations are being delivered. 

LAX Guest Experience Members are providing way-finding assistance and helping passengers find rest rooms in other nearby locations.  Airport personnel are also handing out bottled water to passengers in Terminal 5.  Concessions in Terminal 5 are still open but are not serving hot food, only prepackaged food and bottled beverages. 

The curb lane in front of Terminals 5 on the Lower/Arrival Level is closed while heavy construction equipment is brought in to excavate the pavement so the water main can be repaired.  There are currently no reported flight delays associated with the water disruption.  Passengers are advised to arrive to LAX early to use adjacent terminal restrooms and not drink from the terminals water fountains.
