DELAYS POSSIBLE AS CITY OF INGLEWOOD ROAD CONSTRUCTION REDUCES LANES ON CENTURY BOULEVARD, CLOSES NORTHBOUND I-405 OFF-RAMP NEAR LAX THIS WEEKEND

(Los Angeles, California – July 13, 2016)  Motorists heading to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Friday night and this weekend should prepare for potential traffic delays and consider alternate routes due to the temporary closure of the northbound Interstate 405 off-ramp to Century Boulevard for a City of Inglewood road construction project.

Contractors will be excavating, removing and rebuilding Century Boulevard between Felton Avenue and La Cienega Boulevard in the vicinity of the I-405 Freeway.  The northbound I-405 off-ramp to Century Boulevard will be closed continuously from 9 p.m. on Friday, July 14, to 5 a.m. on Monday, July 17.

Changeable message signs provided by the City of Inglewood will direct motorists attempting to reach Century Boulevard from northbound I-405 to use the Manchester Avenue exit.  Motorists heading to LAX from the south this weekend may wish to use I-105 west and Sepulveda Boulevard or other alternate routes to reach the airport.

At least one lane of Century Boulevard will remain open in each direction in the area of the construction, which is east of the airport.  The southbound I-405 freeway on- and off-ramps at Century Boulevard, as well as the on-ramp to northbound I-405, will remain open during this period.

The closures are part of the City of Inglewood’s ongoing Century Boulevard Mobility Improvement Project that encompasses a three-mile distance from the Inglewood city limit at La Cienega Boulevard to Van Ness Avenue.  The project will improve the roadway surface conditions, bring all traffic lanes and signals to current codes and standards, improve traffic and pedestrian safety, and reduce congestion along Century Boulevard.  Started in late 2015, the project is expected to be completed later this year.

Inglewood’s project traffic management plan includes maintaining access to businesses at all times unless notified in advance, temporary relocation of bus stops, and access for pedestrians maintained outside the construction zone.

Members of the public may call (323) 669-7653 with any questions or concerns about the project.

Airport officials advise passengers to plan to arrive at their airline terminals two hours before boarding time (not the departure time) for domestic flights and three hours before boarding time for international flights.

Updates on real-time traffic conditions in and around LAX are available by following the Los Angeles Airport Police ( @LAAirportPD ) and LAX Airport ( @flyLAXairport ) on Twitter, as well as through the WAZE traffic app.
