FOUR AIRLINES CHANGE TERMINALS ON SECOND NIGHT OF "LAX on the MOVE" RELOCATIONS

Overnight, four airlines changed terminals. With the move of Spirit from Terminal 3 to Terminal 5, and Avianca and InterJet from Terminal 2 to the Tom Bradley International Terminal, 10 of the 15 airlines involved in this round of terminal relocations are in their new homes.

Delta Air Lines successfully moved three gates from Terminal  5 to Terminal 2 on the second of the three nights .

The relocations were mostly smooth. All 24 items on the “move out” list and all 17 on the “move in” list were completed by 5:10 a.m.

The move involved 14 trucks and nearly 200 movers. Some 800 dollies were used to move 2,700 boxes, and six planes were towed to new gates or the Remain Over Night (RON) area. The work started with movers on the airfield taking new equipment from storage at 9:30 p.m. Sunday before turning their attention to the Central Terminal Area starting at 10 p.m. The last truck was out of the Central Terminal Area at 4:58 a.m., one minute ahead of the deadline.

There were no flight delays attributable to the airline terminal relocations.

Similar to Friday night, there was some confusion on third-party websites as to what terminal flights were leaving from for the airlines that had moved. Passengers are reminded that the official website of their airline will provide the most accurate information about the departure time and location for flights. To assist transportation providers with dropping off passengers at the correct terminals, a new brochure will be handed out to drivers today.

Passengers are strongly encouraged to check in, print or download boarding passes before leaving for LAX, so they can be aware of the changes and arrive at the correct terminal for their departure. In addition, passengers are encouraged to arrive earlier than usual, 3 hours for a domestic flight, 4 hours for an international flight.  When arriving at LAX, look up at new signage that will be updated nightly to reflect the moves, and which will identify the new airline terminal locations.  Finally, passengers are reminded to ask for help if they have problems finding their flights. More than 200 volunteers are on hand, many of them in green vests that match a green-wrapped shuttle bus that will run on both the upper-and lower-level roadways to help transport passengers to their correct terminal.

In addition, LAX officials continue to review signage related to the move, and add signs where needed. More than 1,000 signs will be deployed or changed as part of the relocation work. That includes the overhead signs in the Central Terminal Area, which are updated with the names of the airlines now located in those terminals. One more round of those updates will take place on Wednesday morning.

The final series of moves will begin Tuesday night, with Delta Air Lines completing its relocation to Terminals 2 and 3. In addition, Air Canada will move from Terminal 2 to Terminal 6, JetBlue will move from Terminal 3 to Terminal 5, and Hawaiian will move from Terminal 2 to Terminal 5. Also, Southwest will relocate its international flights to the Tom Bradley International Terminal although passengers will check in at Terminal 1 and be bused to Tom Bradley for their departures.

All of the airlines involved in this morning’s terminal relocations have completed their operations for the night, and the moves are currently on or ahead of schedule.

Avianca has relocated its arrivals and departures to the Tom Bradley International Terminal (Terminal B). Passengers will check in at Terminal 3 and walk to Terminal B.

Already this morning, all Spirit aircraft have been moved from Terminal 3 to Terminal 5. Additional work to relocate the airline continues at this time.

Also this morning, InterJet is completing its relocation from Terminal 2 to Terminal B. Passengers will check in at Terminal 3 and walk to Terminal B.

Delta Air Lines is in the process of moving three gates from Terminal 5 to Terminal 2. Due to outdated information, it was incorrectly stated that Delta was also moving gates out of Terminal 6 earlier tonight . Those gates will move on Tuesday night, May 16.

Passengers should check with their airlines’ official website for the most accurate information on the location of their aircraft.
