Speaker doing presentation on seminar Edge4Vets Founder Tom Murphy leads a discussion about how to translate job skills from a military environment into a civilian one at last year's seminar.

(Los Angeles, CA)The “Edge4Vets” veterans job readiness seminar is returning to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Tuesday, April 24. This unique program, which prepares veterans to be job-ready ahead of face-to-face meetings with managers and hiring companies, will be hosted at the LAX Hyatt Regency, and will feature over 20 hiring companies that operate in around LAX. Registration for the seminar is currently open, and participation and attendance is free of charge.

“When it comes to honoring commitments and getting the job done, there are few who are better at both than a United States veteran,” said Paula Adams, LAWA Director of Airports Administration. “With hundreds of vacancies ready to fill at LAWA and companies serving the airport community, we’re excited to partner once again with Edge4Vets to connect veterans to what can become promising careers.”

“Edge4Vets gives vets what business leaders say they need most; that is, support to translate their military skills before we connect them to jobs that can lead to life-long careers in aviation,” said Tom Murphy, Founder of Edge4Vets.

The Edge4Vets program focuses on two facets of job-readiness: preparing veterans by helping them identify their abilities and skills ahead of job interviews or meetings, and ultimately connecting them with hiring managers, HR professionals, and other job opportunities through seminars and other events. The program is being offered this spring in advance of the busy summer hiring season when employers need high quality workers.

The LAX program features a unique online preparation module that helps vets translate their military experience into a “Plan4Success,” which they can use to identify and highlight their skillsets. The module, which is accessible after online registration, is also free of charge.

Once complete, vets take that Plan4Success to the seminar, where they will connect face-to-face with HR professionals and managers from airport companies (e.g., LAWA, LAX air carriers, airport service providers, etc.) interested in finding their next great hire. These HR professionals and managers will serve as “mentors,” who will sit with the veterans in small discussion groups and provide feedback and advice. These discussions help veterans tap into their military values and skills, and help them learn how to present them in ways that make them “job ready.”

The Edge4Vets program began its partnership with LAWA last year, and led to fulfilling jobs for a number of veterans who completed the module and attended the seminar. The program is offered by the Human Resiliency Institute at Fordham University in New York in partnership with Airports Council International-North America, and is collaborating with schools and veterans organizations throughout Southern California to raise awareness of the workshop.
