California Department of Motor Vehicles Shares Real ID Act Information with LAX Guests

(Los Angeles, CA) Today, representatives from the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) came to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to share information with airport guests about the federal REAL ID Act.

The REAL ID Act, passed in 2005, requires states to issue identification cards that comply with new federal standards collectively referred to as REAL ID. After Oct. 1, 2020, commercial jet travelers on domestic flights in California must use federally compliant identification (e.g., REAL ID-compliant identification, U.S. Passport, etc.) to pass through Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screening. Prior to this deadline, travelers may still use non-federally compliant Driver's Licenses and California IDs to pass through TSA and board domestic flights.


At LAX's Tom Bradley International Terminal, DMV staff answered questions that travelers may have about traveling with their California Driver's License or identification card and the requirements of the REAL ID Act.


Federally compliant California driver licenses are now available through the DMV.
