VAN NUYS AIRPORT GOES ELECTRIC AS TENANTS INSTALL MORE THAN 100 ELECTRIC CHARGING STATIONS
(Van Nuys, CA) In another major step toward its industry-leading sustainability goals, the businesses at Van Nuys Airport (VNY) now offer more than 100 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations for use by customers and employees.
Five Van Nuys Airport businesses installed EV charging stations, including: Western Jet Aviation (41 stations), fixed-base operator Clay Lacy Aviation (40 stations), Jet Aviation (16 stations), Signature Flight Support (7 stations) and Aeroplex/Aerolease (3 stations). There are now a total of 107 EV stations at VNY.
More than 80 additional EV stations are planned by Jet Aviation, Signature Flight Support and Castle and Cooke Aviation.
“Investments in electric vehicle charging infrastructure and solar powered systems, as well as increased use of sustainable fuel, demonstrate our strong commitment to sustainable airport operations,” said Justin Erbacci, Chief Executive Officer, Los Angeles World Airports. “Los Angeles World Airports has a bold agenda to achieve net-zero carbon emission by 2045, and with the installation of more than 100 new electric vehicle chargers, we are demonstrating once again that Van Nuys Airport is on the leading edge of sustainability for general aviation airports.”
Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has embraced sustainability as part of its airport operations, often pioneering practices and policies that have spread to other airports throughout the world. In 2019 LAWA updated its Sustainability Action Plan to be even more aggressive. LAWA is leading the aviation industry in sustainability in the management of energy, water, air emissions, material resources and natural resources both at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and VNY. LAX, the sixth-busiest airport in the world serving nearly 66 million guests in 2022, is owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), a proprietary, revenue-generating department of the City of Los Angeles that also governs Van Nuys Airport (VNY). As the international gateway to the Southern California region, LAX and its partners are dedicated to meeting global airport standards for customer satisfaction, safety, regional economic leadership, organizational performance and sustainability.
To better serve the millions of domestic and international guests that travel through LAX each year, the airport is undergoing a multi-billion-dollar capital improvement program to modernize its entire campus. Initiatives underway include an Automated People Mover, a Consolidated Rental Car Facility and two projects that will each add over one million square feet to the airport's existing property: Terminal 9 and Concourse 0.
